How to Wear Saree

There are many ways to wear a saree, but here is a basic tutorial on how to drape a saree in the Nivi style, which is one of the most popular styles.

Materials:

  • A saree
  • A petticoat (optional)
  • A blouse
  • Safety pins

Steps:

  1. Put on the petticoat (if using).
  2. Hold the saree with the pallu (end with the border) in your right hand and the other end in your left hand.
  3. Bring the pallu end over your left shoulder and let it fall down in front of you.
  4. Bring the other end of the saree around your back and tuck it into the petticoat at your waist, just above your navel.
  5. Gather the fabric from the front of your body and pleat it into two or three equal pleats.
  6. Bring the pleated fabric up and over your right shoulder.
  7. Adjust the pallu so that it falls gracefully over your left shoulder.
  8. Secure the pleated fabric with safety pins at your waist and shoulder.

Here are some tips for draping a saree:

  • Make sure the saree is the right length for you. The pallu should reach the back of your knees.
  • The pleats should be equal in size and should be made evenly.
  • The pallu should be draped so that it falls gracefully over your shoulder.
  • You can use safety pins to secure the saree in place, but try not to use too many pins as they can damage the fabric.

Once you have mastered the basic Nivi drape, you can experiment with different styles and variations. There are many beautiful and elegant ways to wear a saree, so have fun and be creative!
